CNSNews, by Michael W. Chapman: The latest data in an ongoing survey started in the 1990s shows that the percentage of Americans who think same-sex marriage should be recognized by the law as valid, just like real marriage between a man and a woman, has more than doubled from 27% in 1996 to 63% in 2019. In addition, the percentage of Americans who believe gay relations are morally acceptable has increased from 40% in 2001 to 63% in 2019.
In roughly two decades, Americans’ support for homosexual behavior and so-called gay marriage has dramatically increased.
In its survey, Gallup asked, “Do you think marriages between same-sex couples should or should not be recognized by the law as valid, with the same rights as traditional marriages?”
In 1996, only 27% of Americans said gay marriages “should be valid.” Today, that number is 63% — an increase of 36 percentage points.
“Gallup polls over the past decade have mostly shown small, incremental increases in support for gay marriage each year,” said the survey firm. “Majorities of Americans have continuously supported same-sex couples’ right to marry since late 2012, not long after President Barack Obama came out in support of it — making him the first president to do so.”
Sodomitical “marriages” were legalized by the [U.S.] Supreme Court in the 2015 Obergefell v. Hodges decision.
When broken down by political party, Gallup found that the number of Republicans who think gay marriage should be valid rose from 22% in 1999 to 44% in 2019. Among Democrats, support rose from 42% in 1999 to 79% in 2019.
Also, back in 1999, some 52% of people age 18-29 said gay marriage should be valid. Today, that number is 83%, a 31 percentage point increase.
Gallup also asked, “Next, I’m going to read you a list of issues. Regardless of whether or not you think it should be legal, for each one, please tell me whether you personally believe that in general it is morally acceptable or morally wrong. How about gay or lesbian relations?”
In 2001, 53% said morally wrong and 40% said morally unacceptable. Today, 63% say sodomitical relations are “morally acceptable,” and only 35% say they are “morally wrong.”
“Similar to the demographics of approval on gay marriage, adults younger than 30 (84%) and Democrats (77%) are most likely to say gay and lesbian relations are morally acceptable, while adults aged 65 and older (51%) and Republicans (49%) are the least likely to say the same,” reported Gallup.
“Americans have ‘evolved,’ to use Obama’s term about his personal stance on the issue, in their views on marriage,” concluded Gallup.
