Kenneth Hackett, the U.S. Ambassador to the Holy See said that Pope Francis has “a very positive view of President Obama.” He said it is unlikely that the Pontiff would speak to Obama about abortion and same-sex marriage during his September visit to the U.S.
Hackett also said that President Obama and the Pontiff “hit it off on a number of issues,” such as immigration, poverty, welfare, and the environment, as well as religious freedom and the plight of persecuted Christians.
Would the pope “tone down” his criticism of capitalism during his U.S. trip?”
“No,” said Hackett, “Tone down? No!”
