Jesuit-trained Members of the 112th and 113th U.S. Congress and Administration

The current 113th U.S. Congress has a strong representation of 50 Jesuit Alumni among its 535 members. While that is a little less than the 54 Jesuit Alumni in the 112th Congress, it represents 9.3% of the congressional makeup. That is a very strong influence.

The 50 Jesuit Alumni in Congress represent 14 Jesuit schools around America with Georgetown University having 20 alumni in Congress followed by Boston College with six. Fordham University has five and College of the Holy Cross has four.

During the 112th Congress the Obama administration appointed 30 Jesuit Alumni to high offices of state including the secretary of the Department of Defense, Director of the CIA, Director of Homeland Security, Director of the Office of Management and Budget, and a White House Chief of Staff.

“With the many challenges facing our nation, we are happy that our Jesuit college and university alumni continue to play important roles in Congress and the Administration,” said AJCU President Fr. Charles Currie, S.J. “Their commitment to lead and to serve is in the best Jesuit tradition.”
