A senior Egyptian official has warned that it has intelligence that ISIS is planning worldwide attacks this spring and summer including attacks in Europe and the United States as well as a ground offensive in Iraq and Syria.
Egyptian warplanes have struck ISIS training camps along Libya’s coast after ISIS released video showing the execution of 21 Coptic Christians. The headquarters of the Coptic Church is based in Egypt.
ISIS and its allies currently boast an army of about 180,000 fighters, six times more than CIA estimate last September of more than 31,000. ISIS is attempting to build a sustainable coalition.
Michael Steinbach, head of the FBI’s counter-terrorism division told CNN, “[T]here are individuals that have been in communication with groups like [ISIS] who have a desire to conduct an attack.” He said those people are living in the U.S. right now.
Though the CIA denied the statement, Bob Baer, former CIA officer told CNN last August he had been “told with no uncertainty there are ISIS sleeper cells in this country.”
