China recently retrofitted a Russian ship into an aircraft carrier and put it in operation in 2012. Now it is working on a second aircraft carrier. News stories about a cabling contractor involved in the project on the Internet were quickly deleted.
Beijing has been intimidating and aggressively disputing territories that involve a number of its neighbors such as Japan and the Philippines. China apparently wants to project its might throughout the East and South China Seas and other places around the world with a “blue water navy.”
Much of China’s blueprint remains in secrecy, but a senior official let it slip that China is planning four aircraft carriers, the second to be delivered by 2020 at the latest.
The Philippine foreign ministry Albert del Rosario “urged the international community to stand up to what he described as China’s growing encroachment into the South China Sea.”
“Although Chinese authorities have never openly confirmed whether [construction of] a homemade carrier is underway, they have also never denied it,” said the Global Times, China’s state run newspaper.
“And there shall be wars and rumors of wars.” Matthew 24:6
