“A retired Navy officer and military analyst says former President Barack Obama violated the trust of the American people, according to a newly revealed report related to the Iran nuclear deal.
“An investigation by Senate Republicans has revealed that officials in the Obama administration – despite repeatedly telling Congress and the public it had no plans to do so – secretly sought to give Iran access, albeit briefly, to the U.S. financial system by sidestepping sanctions kept in place after the 2015 nuclear deal.
“The report by the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations reveals that in February 2016, the Obama administration approached two U.S. banks asking them to allow Iran to exchange $5.7 billion it held in an Omani bank into U.S. dollars. The effort was unsuccessful because American banks declined to participate, citing the reputational risk of doing business with or for Iran.
“…Now we are beginning to see that [Barack Obama], in fact, certainly manipulated the grounds for truth on what was going to be included in the Iran nuclear deal,” says CMDR Kirk Lippold (USN-Ret.), who commanded the USS Cole when it was attacked by terrorists in 2000.
“On one hand, [the Obama administration] are offering access to the U.S. financial system and giving them a free look at what could be possible as an incentive for doing the nuclear agreement,” Lippold continues. “But he’s telling Congress, on the other hand, that we’re not going to do that because he knew it would be so politically unpalatable that they would not allow it to happen.”
Lippold argues that “you cannot negotiate in good faith when you are not being truthful to the American people through their representatives in Congress.”
The Associated Press reports that while issuing a ‘license’ for access to the U.S. banking system wasn’t illegal, it went ‘above and beyond’ what the Obama administration was required to do under the terms of the nuclear agreement.
“Subcommittee chairman Senator Rob Portman (R-Ohio) put it this way: ‘The Obama administration misled the American people and Congress because they were desperate to get a deal with Iran.’
The Obama administration is not the only American government that has lied to the American people. Each successive generation of leaders adopts measures to deceive.
