Republicans call for committee to investigate ‘radical left’ in wake of Kirk assassination

Yahoo News, by Emily Brooks: A group of Republicans in the House Freedom Caucus called for a select committee to investigate the “the money, influence, and power behind the radical left’s assault on America and the rule of law” in the wake of the assassination of conservative powerhouse Charlie Kirk.

The group of 23 members, led by Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas), articulated the request in a letter to Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.), House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chair James Comer (R-Ky.), and House Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) on Thursday, before Kirk’s suspected assassin was apprehended.

“In the wake of numerous attacks on our way of life, the destruction of the rule of law, and the murder of innocent Americans, prominent and unknown alike, we must take every step to follow the money and uncover the force behind the NGOs, donors, media, public officials, and all entities driving this coordinated attack,” the members wrote in the letter, going on to say there is “a sustained breakdown of law and order, fueled not by chance, but by anti-American ideology.”

The letter noted that the Southern Poverty Law Center, which keeps a “hate map” of extremist groups, earlier this year had singled out Turning Point USA, the organization Kirk co-founded.

The members decried “radical organizations” that funded campaigns for district attorneys and judges who it claimed “coordinate releasing criminals to the streets.”

“The result has been death and injury to thousands of Americans, including the recent horrifying murder of Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska at the hands of a 14-time released criminal,” the letter said, in reference to the case that went viral earlier this year.

“Enough is enough. We must follow the money to identify the perpetrators of the coordinated antiAmerican assaults being carried out against us and take all steps under the law necessary to stop them,” the letter said.

In response to the letter, an SPLC spokesperson defended the organization’s work.

“The data and analysis we provide have been used in courts, classrooms, and legislatures to protect civil rights and hold extremists accountable,” the SPLC statement said. “We must have meaningful national conversation about violence and polarization in America. Blaming organizations that monitor extremism distracts from the urgent work of addressing the conditions that allow hate and violence to grow. SPLC remains committed to exposing extremism, equipping communities with knowledge, and defending the rights and safety of marginalized communities.”

The call for investigations echoes President Trump’s promise in wake of Kirk’s killing to use his administration to “find each and every one of those who contributed to this atrocity and to other political violence, including the organizations that fund it and support it.”

Roy and Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.), who also signed the letter, are both subcommittee chairs under the House Judiciary Committee. But they are calling for a new subcommittee with “full subpoena powers and authority to deliver results.”

“We can no longer pretend to be bound together by shared ideals when a well-funded, vitriolic cadre of our fellow Americans and foreign interests are at war with the very values of faith in God, fidelity to our Constitution, and respect for the principles of liberty and Western Civilization that define us as Americans – including, notably, the free speech practiced and exemplified by Charlie Kirk,” the members said in the letter.

Other signatories include House Freedom Caucus Chair Andy Harris (Md.) and Reps. Scott Perry (Pa.), Josh Brecheen (Okla.), Andy Ogles (Tenn.), Eric Burlison (Mo.), Keith Self (Texas), Brandon Gill (Texas), Lauren Boebert (Colo.), Byron Donalds (Fla.) and Barry Moore (Ala.).

Our Comment:
The pendulum is swinging to the right.

Prophetic Link:
The dignitaries of church and state will unite to bribe, persuade, or compel all classes to honor the Sunday. The lack of divine authority will be supplied by oppressive enactments. Political corruption is destroying love of justice and regard for truth; and even in free America, rulers and legislators, in order to secure public favor, will yield to the popular demand for a law enforcing Sunday observance. Liberty of conscience, which has cost so great a sacrifice, will no longer be respected. In the soon-coming conflict we shall see exemplified the prophet’s words: “The dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.” Great Controversy, 592

Erika Kirk’s Turning Point Faith Movement

Ellen White’s rebuke in Testimonies for the Church, vol. 5, p. 714.2 is not merely historical—it’s a living warning. She called for alertness when religious movements sought to influence civil legislation, especially under the guise of moral reform. That’s precisely what the National Reform Association attempted in the 19th century, and it’s why parallels with Turning Point Faith deserve serious theological scrutiny today.

    Why the Parallel Matters

Turning Point Faith, an offshoot of Turning Point USA, promotes a biblically grounded civic engagement model that blends religious fervor with political activism. While many see this as a revival of Christian values in public life, others—especially within the SDA tradition—see echoes of the National Reform Movement’s push for a Christian amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

The National Reformers believed America should be officially recognized as a Christian nation, with laws reflecting biblical morality. Ellen White warned that such efforts, however well-intentioned, would ultimately erode religious liberty and pave the way for church-state union—a central concern of the third angel’s message.

    Should SDA Ministers Speak Out?

Absolutely—if they are to be faithful to the prophetic mandate. Here’s why:

    • Prophetic Responsibility: SDA ministers are called to interpret current events through the lens of Revelation 13 and 14. Movements that blend religious identity with political power must be evaluated in light of the beast-power dynamics and the image to the beast.

    • Historical Echoes: The National Reform Movement was not dismissed by Ellen White as a fringe concern. She saw it as a direct threat to liberty of conscience. Turning Point Faith’s emphasis on Christian nationalism, though not identical, shares structural similarities that warrant attention.

    • Third Angel’s Message Misunderstood: White lamented that many ministers didn’t grasp the full scope of the third angel’s message. That includes understanding how religious liberty, Sabbath observance, and church-state separation are intertwined.

    A Call to Action

Ellen White’s words ( 5T 714.2 ) —“May the Lord forgive our brethren for thus interpreting the very message for this time”—are a sobering indictment. They suggest that silence or neutrality in the face of religious-political fusion is not just a missed opportunity but a spiritual failure.

Leading SDA ministers should not only point out these parallels—they should educate, warn, and equip their congregations to discern the difference between genuine revival and prophetic deception. That’s not political meddling; it’s prophetic fidelity.

I have said for years, ever since reading The Great Controversy for the first time as a young adult, that the extremism of the Left will reach its uttermost, and the reaction of the Right will cause the pendulum to swing to the opposite extreme.

The use of the phrase, “The pendulum is swinging to the Right” hits the nail on the head! And while I have been a lifelong conservative, seeking to defend our God-given rights from those who desire to deny them, I am also a libertarian. The libertarian position is to oppose extremes that would increase authoritarianism, be it from the Left or the Right.

And amid all of this, the best counsel on the issues manifesting themselves in current events is still from the pen of Ellen White. We should not be binding ourselves together like kindling wood for a fire… We must reject the appeal of both sides of the political divide and bind ourselves ever so tighter to the only life preserver that works, Jesus Christ.
