The Presbyterian General Assembly (U.S.A.) voted to amend its constitution to allow same sex marriage. By a large margin the assembly changed the wording of its constitution to define marriage as a union of “two people,” not just “a man and a woman.” The amendment must by approved by a majority of its 172 regional presbyteries over the next year.
The assembly also changed a policy that allows ministers to preside at gay weddings in states where it is legal and if the local congregational leaders approve. Currently 19 states and the District of Columbia have legalized same-sex marriage.
In 2011 the church changed policies that permit the ordination of gay clergy with same-sex partners.
“Likewise also, as it was in the days of Lot…” Luke 17:28
