Get your ZZZZZZZs!

Missing out on sleep, it turns out can have a serious impact on your future health. Scientists and other experts have know for a long time that not getting enough sleep or enough quality sleep can is linked with a host of health issues, including weight gain, depression and strokes.

But now a group of scientists may be able to prove that poor sleep can leave your brain vulnerable to Alzheimer’s disease.

Sleep is valuable for brain health, scientists say, particularly because your brain purges amyloid, a toxin linked to Alzheimer’s, overnight, through what’s called the glymphatic system.

Lack of sleep or poor sleep, does not allow the brain to remove the amyloid, researchers think. And it puts a person at a higher risk for Alzheimer’s disease.

Put in simple terms, the glymphatic system is the brain’s rubbish disposal system. When you sleep, the glymphatic ducts swell and pulse with cerebrospinal fluid squirting it throughout and cleaning the brain of interstitial waste products like amyloid that can cause damage when aggregated. It’s that aggregated amyloid that is the problem.

Catch your ZZZZZZZs… it will help prevent degenerative brain diseases.

Proper periods of sleep and rest and an abundance of physical exercise are essential to health of body and mind. To rob nature of her hours for rest and recuperation by allowing one man to do the work of four, or of three, or even of two, will result in irreparable loss. Testimonies for the Church, page 247
