Pope Francis met with Mauricio Macri the President of Argentina along with his wife Juliana Awada and their little girl in an audience in the Vatican. Argentina is the home country of Pope Francis.
The Holy See Press Office described the meeting as cordial. Their talks “demonstrated the good bilateral relations between the Holy See and the Argentine Republic.” Among the topics discussed were “assistance for integral development, respect for human rights, the fight against poverty and drug trafficking, justice, peace and social reconciliation.”
“In this context” the Holy See continued, “the positive contribution of the episcopate and Catholic institutions in Argentine society was reiterated, especially in the fields of human promotion and the formation of the new generations, and particularly in the current economic climate.” In other words, they discussed all the important moral and educational issues that the Papacy is concerned about, such as protection of life, education of the young (including spiritual), and the papal agenda to overthrow poverty.
As usual, following the audience with the pope, the Argentine President met with Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, accompanied by Secretary for Relations with States, Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher.
