Archbishop Giorgio Lingua, the Vatican’s nuncio to Iraq said “that something had to be done, otherwise [the Islamic State] could not be stopped.”
The unprecedented call for war follows Pope Francis’ call for “Prayer and action,” to “stop these crimes.”
Meanwhile, [Roman Catholic] Chaldean Patriarch of Babylon, Louis Sako of Baghdad said, “There is a need of international support and a professional, well-equipped army. The situation is going from bad to worse.”
The brutality of the Islamic State is notorious and has horrified the world. Atrocities and genocide make this a very unusual evil, which is the reason the Catholic Church justifies the papal call for nations to join the fight against the Islamic State. The IS is recruiting fighters from many nations of the world. Many who join them are motivated by an extreme interpretation of the Islamic scriptures, the Koran. As more fighters join the IS, they come with a bloodlust to kill, and the atrocities continue.
“And he will be a wild man; his hand [will be] against every man, and every man’s hand against him; and he shall dwell in the presence of all his brethren.” Genesis 16:12

God bless!
