President Jose Eduardo dos Santos of Angola, along with his wife and several members of his government, met with Pope Francis in Rome. During the 20 minute meeting, the two men discussed the “good relations between the Holy See and the Republic of Angola.” They also discussed the role of the Catholic Church in the country, including its educational and health care institutions. They also discussed the fight against poverty, social inequality and the conflicts on the African continent.
Angola and the Holy See are planning a bilateral agreement regarding the legal state of the Church in the country.
As usual, after the papal meeting, the Angolan president and members of his government met with the Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin.
