Leaders of the American Jewish Institute met with Pope Francis in a private audience. The pope thanked them for maintaining “dialogue and fraternity” and said he hoped that Jewish and Christian communities would continue to engage in fruitful dialogue. He also said the two faiths are united by the same spiritual patrimony.
The pope referenced his usual theme by adding that Jews and Christians can cooperate by serving the poor and marginalized in society, and also by “transmitting to new generations the heritage of mutual knowledge and friendship.”
The Jesuit pope presented himself humbly by asking the delegation to pray for him and especially for his upcoming visit to Jerusalem.
