“Doctors Without Borders has said the Ebola outbreak in West African nations is ‘totally out of control.’” Ebola is killing people in Guinea (where most of the deaths have been so far), Sierra Leone and Liberia.
Saying that it is likely to spread to more countries, DWB Director of Operations Bart Janssens, said “There needs to be a real political commitment [to] this is a very big emergency.”
More than 260 deaths have been reported in Guinea, with 49 in Sierra Leone and 24 in Liberia. “The epidemic is now in a second wave,” said Janssens.
Ebola remains one of the world’s most virulent diseases and kills up to 90 percent of its victims with no known cure. It spreads through direct contact with blood, feces or sweat, through sexual contact and through unprotected handling of contaminated corpses. It was first discovered in the Democratic Republic of Congo in 1976.
“This is the highest outbreak on record and has the highest number of deaths, so this is unprecedented so far,” said Armand Sprecher, an expert with Doctors Without Borders.
“We are standing on the threshold of great and solemn events. The Lord is at the door. Upon the Mount of Olives the Saviour rehearsed the scenes that were to precede this great event: “Ye shall hear of wars and rumors of wars,” he said. “Nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes in divers places. All these are the beginning of sorrows.” While these prophecies received a partial fulfilment at the destruction of Jerusalem, they have a more direct application in the last days.” The Southern Watchman, December 25, 1906
“These things are the result of drops from the vials of God’s wrath being sprinkled on the earth, and are but faint representations of what will be in the near future.” Manuscript 24, 1891
