Pope Francis granted an audience to Miro Cerar, prime minister of the Republic of Slovenia, which highlighted the good relations that exist between the Papacy and the nation of Slovenia. They confirmed their common will to continue constructive dialogue regarding the relations between church and state, “with particular reference to the process of national reconciliation, human and religious values, and joint collaboration to promote the common good of society and of the poorest,” a Vatican communiqué said.
In other words, they agreed to continue the collaboration between church and state to keep the peace between Catholics and non-Catholics in the 60% Catholic country. Rome seeks preferred status among the nations wherever possible and uses her political leverage to achieve it.
As usual Cerar also met with Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Pope’s secretary of state, and Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, secretary for Relations with States.
