China has begun a series of live-fire drills involving more than 140,000 troops. China plans 100 joint exercises this year to sharpen its combat readiness and enhance its ability to fight and win battles. They will emphasize integration of all branches of the military. Recent exercises included an assault on a mock-up of the presidential palace in Taiwan, live-fire exercises in the South China Sea where it is in disputes with other nations over the islands.
China is also sharpening territorial disputes with its neighbors. Rising tensions over disputed territories with its Asian neighbors including the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, Taiwan and Brunei, has the ASEAN officials at the Kuala Lumpur talks are pessimistic about achieving a formal treaty on how to resolve disputes in the South China Sea. They are now saying there is “no hope of a code of conduct on conflicts.” China objects to the discussion of the disputes.
Meanwhile China deployed an oil rig last year near the Paracel Islands, which met with a swift rebuke from Vietnam. Japan has also released documents “detailing Chinese oil and gas exploration platforms. Japan said that the documents proved that Beijing was accelerating plans to unilaterally exploit an oilfield that straddles disputed waters in the East China Sea.”
Japan’s parliament, for its part, passed security bills extending the nation’s ability to defend other countries, which Beijing portrays as Tokyo rejecting its postwar pacific constitution.
The nations are getting ready for war.
“For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.” Matthew 24:7
