KTLA 5, por Tony Kurzweil y Marc Sternfield: El peor escenario se ha hecho realidad en el barrio de Pacific Palisades de Los Ángeles, donde se estima que 1.000 estructuras, muchas de ellas viviendas, han sido destruidas por un incendio forestal alimentado por el viento de Santa Ana, según confirmaron las autoridades el miércoles por la mañana.
El incendio de Palisades se declaró por primera vez sobre las 10.30 horas del martes en el bloque 1100 de North Piedra Morada Drive. El miércoles por la mañana, el fuego se había extendido a más de 5.000 acres sin contención.
En una rueda de prensa celebrada el miércoles por la mañana, el jefe de bomberos del condado de Los Ángeles, Anthony Marrone, reveló que se habían perdido unas 1.000 estructuras. También hubo un «elevado número de personas que no evacuaron» que sufrieron heridas graves, dijo.
La luz del día puso de manifiesto la magnitud de la devastación, ya que barrios enteros y centros comerciales quedaron arrasados en esta próspera comunidad costera.
Se ordenó la evacuación de toda la zona de Pacific Palisades hasta el Océano Pacífico. Las evacuaciones, que también incluyeron advertencias para las zonas de Santa Mónica y Calabasas, afectaron a decenas de miles de hogares y negocios.
Un refugio de evacuación para personas y animales domésticos se estableció en el Centro de Recreación de Westwood en 1350 S. Sepúlveda Blvd.
Los distritos escolares unificados de Santa Mónica y Las Vírgenes cancelaron las clases el miércoles.
Decenas de escuelas del condado de Los Ángeles fueron cerradas el miércoles debido al incendio. Varias escuelas en el Distrito Escolar Unificado de Los Ángeles también fueron cerradas.
Se sigue investigando la causa del incendio.
Pacific Palisades se encuentra a unos 16 km de Malibú, donde el incendio Franklin quemó más de 4.000 acres y varias casas tras declararse en diciembre en condiciones de viento similares.

And then the great deceiver will persuade men that those who serve God are causing these evils. The class that have provoked the displeasure of Heaven will charge all their troubles upon those whose obedience to God’s commandments is a perpetual reproof to transgressors. As the wrath of the people shall be excited by false charges, they will pursue a course toward God’s ambassadors very similar to that which apostate Israel pursued toward Elijah. GC 590.1
