Delaware has become the 11th state to legalize same-sex marriage. The new law will take effect July 1, 2013. Delaware has an existing civil unions law. All civil unions will be converted to marriages over the next year. The new law doesn’t give any new benefits that same-sex couples had under the civil union law.
Opponents that included religious leaders from across the state, argued same-sex marriage redefines and destroys a centuries-old institution that is a building block of society.
In typical fashion, the new law does not require religious clerics to perform same-sex marriages if that conflicts with their religious beliefs, but it does require businesses to provide marriage-related services and benefits to same-sex couples even if they have conscientious objections to same sex unions.
Recently, Rhode Island became the 10th U.S. state to permit gay and lesbian marriages. It is only a matter of time before gay marriage is approved in most, if not all, U.S. states, making the United States like ancient Sodom and Gomorrah. It is also a matter of time before there will be persecution of those who speak out against gay marriage.
In the Great Controversy between Christ and Satan, this issue must mature as Bible prophecy has declared (see Luke 17:28-30).
