In that movie, a Russian satellite-killing missile destroys a Russian satellite, creating a debris field that impacts other spacecraft, every 90 minutes, including the International Space Station and Space Shuttle, and other stations like the Russian station Mir, and (in the story) a Chinese station and escape capsule. I find it interesting how Books and movies presage real-life events, and makes me wonder if this is some sort of predictive programming…
