segunda, 28 de julho de 2014 at 16:27Consider this statement you’ve made: “For instance, will believers of the seventh-day Sabbath eventually be told that their views and practices don’t count when the government wants to implement Sunday worship?”
The point about the marriage equality movement isn’t that gays get special rights, it’s that all citizens should be treated equally under the (secular) United States laws. If you’d taken time to read any of the court decisions, it’s clear that the Government should stay out of the role having laws that support one religious view over other religious views. Some churches support marriage equality, while many others don’t. Does that mean that the Law of the Land, hinging on the United States Constitution should support one religion over another? No. That’s why gay marriage bans are being struck down left and right, because no single religion should have their views enshrined in law, while other religions don’t.
Consider, if Jews ran the country, would it be right to have laws banning pork? If Sunday keeping Christians ran the country, would it be right to have laws banning worship on Saturday? If Christian Scientists ran the country, would it be right to have laws banning medical treatment? You should understand my point by now. No individual sect of any religion should have their religious views supported by our government unless there is a secular reason to do so.
The very fact that laws are judged as being in violation of the US Constitution, including the 5th and 14th Amendments, proves that The Government won’t be implementing Sunday worship.
Well, they won’t be as long as we all continue to struggle to keep the Wall of the Separation of Church and State firmly in place, and YES, that means supporting Marriage Equality.
