  It means much to us whether we are in pursuit of the heavenly things or of the earthly. The earthly will soon pass away. In these days there is great destruction of earthly treasures. There are “earthquakes in divers places,” and trouble and difficulties are seen on every hand. But it is our privilege to be preparing to become members of the heavenly family, children of the heavenly King. 343{ML 342.6}

  As I hear of the terrible calamities that from week to week are taking place, I ask myself: What do these things mean? The most awful disasters are following one another in quick succession. How frequently we hear of earthquakes and tornadoes, of destruction by fire and flood, with great loss of life and property! Apparently these calamities are capricious outbreaks of seemingly disorganized, unregulated forces, but in them God’s purpose may be read. They are one of the means by which He seeks to arouse men and women to a sense of their danger. . . . {ML 343.2}

  I live 20 miles south of Eugene on a ridge with a lot of hills between here and the coast. This article makes it sound like it is vulnerable here but wonder how far east one would have to go. A great deal of eastern Oregon is not really livable. Limited water with no growing season. But God knows best where He wants me to be so I must listen and obey.

    You are probably out of range of a tsunami 20 miles inland behind a lot of hills, but you would not be out of range of the earthquake. Pr. Mayer

  Very interesting that this talk of a big earthquake will hit the are of the world where there is arguable some of the most pro-gay activity: San Francisco and Seattle areas.

  The source for Pastor Mayer’s article was published in the NewYorker on July 20 about one month from the USA Supreme Court Ruling on July 26 that legalized sodomy (aka gay marriage).

  Wouldn’t it be very timely if a major earthquake destroys the epicenters of gay advocacy movements soon after destroying marriage? This could easily be interpreted as a “judgment from God” because of the departure (gay marriage ruling) and would be an opportunity for a spiritual figure (the pope) to arrive just in time to discuss climate changes.

  Whether there will or will not be any “natural” disasters preceding the Jesuit’s Pope visit to Congress is neither here nor there in the scheme of the Great Controversy. The time is now to put away sin, make peace with the Lord, and live obediently to his revealed word.
