The German Defense Minister, Ursula von der Leyen announced that Germany will invest billions of Euros in switching to the Medium Extended Air Defense System “MEADS,” an entirely European built system, from the “Patriot” air defense system produced by the United States and imported to Europe. The project will cost an estimated eight billion Euros, four million of which have already been invested. With Meads, Germany will achieve “autonomy in security policy.”
But Germany is also working on the consolidation of EU’s arms industries aimed at achieving more independence from the U.S. The German Navy will get four new MKS 180 multi-role warships worth another four billion Euros. This will give them capabilities to wage distant wars over extended periods. They will also develop a new technologically advanced battle tank to replace the Leopard 2.
The decision to purchase “MEADS,” which will be developed by a consortium including German and Italian companies along with U.S. based Lockheed Martin, is considered a significant step because of its magnitude and because it will strengthen the German-European arms industry and guarantee Germany an “autonomous security policy,” according to defense expert Florian Hahn.
Europe is also working on a strictly European military grade drone. On May 18, von der Leyen and her counterparts in France and Italy inked a deal to that end. Poland and Spain have already joined the combat drone project. Von der Leyen said “The goal of the Euro-drone is that we can decide by ourselves in Europe on where we deploy the Euro-drone and how we use it.” Keep in mind that it is Berlin that controls Europe. Saying that Europe will decide is really saying that Germany will decide how to deploy the Euro-drone.
Berlin is also reinforcing the consolidation of the European arms industries. German and French tank manufacturers are planning a “fusion” agreement. Berlin is also trying to cooperate with Paris in military applications of space technology, particularly in developing a satellite surveillance system.
The warships that von der Leyen announced recently will have capabilities to carry on aerial, maritime, and underwater warfare, provide aerial protection to other vessels within 12 miles and engage in amphibious operations on prolonged missions. It will also raise perseverance capabilities.
While the consolidation of the German military industry and its collaboration with other countries in Europe on military projects is not without difficulties and “teething” problems, there is no doubt that Germany is rebuilding her military power. This, in itself, is significant as a prophetic marker. Remember, whenever Germany has had a strong military, world wars were the result. When Germany is united she becomes strong and dominant. This leads to war. As Germany aggressively rebuilds her military capabilities, watch for increasing military activity within Europe and outside her borders.
Keep in mind that as the Holy Roman Empire is being resurrected, the Papacy will need Germany to police Europe for her and collaborate with her in military projects in places like North Africa and the Middle East.
“And ye shall hear of wars and rumors of wars…” Matthew 24:6
