El Papa Francisco se unirá a Hillsong, Lecrae y otros en un encuentro de aproximadamente 1 millón de cristianos en el National Mall en Washington DC., el próximo 16 de julio. «Juntos 2016» es un «movimiento para darle poder a la iglesia y despertar la cultura de Jesús,» dice Nick Hall, el fundador de PULSE y organizador del movimiento. La manifestación incluirá oradores prominentes de «todas las denominaciones». «Juntos 2016» pedirá a los cristianos que oren «para que Dios cambie los corazones de una América dividida».
El Papa Francisco agregó su nombre a la lista de más de 40 prominentes oradores invitados, músicos, artistas de grabación, autores y líderes; incluyendo los músicos “cristianos” de hip hop Lecrae y la organización de la Iglesia Hillsong. El Papa presentará su mensaje por video. «Nos sentimos muy humildes y honrados por su participación y estamos deseosos de compartir su mensaje con la multitud que se reunirá en Juntos 2016», dijo Hall. «Que su Santidad haya elegido hablar en este día histórico es un testimonio de la urgencia y necesidad de que los seguidores de Jesús se unan en oración por nuestra nación y nuestro mundo».
Hall quiere inspirar un reavivamiento en Estados Unidos basado en la colaboración ecuménica de todas las iglesias. «Se requiere para este tiempo que vivimos», dijo Hall. «Es hora de reunirnos a gran escala y llamar nuestra atención de nuevo a donde realmente importa. Nuestra esperanza y nuestra ayuda se encuentran en Jesús, no en los líderes políticos. Vamos a unirnos, vamos a buscar a Dios, orar por nuestra nación y orar por la unidad. Nuestro objetivo es reunirnos como un frente unificado, buscando a Jesús y el cambio para nuestra nación a través de la oración y la alabanza».
Más de 1.000 iglesias en todo el país ya se han comprometido para participar en Juntos 2016 que se llevará a cabo desde las 9 am. hasta las 9 pm. del 16 de julio en el National Mall en Washington, DC.
La iglesia Hillsong es una mega iglesia pentecostal que comenzó en Sydney, Australia y está asociada con las Iglesias Cristianas de Australia, la cual es la rama australiana correspondiente a las Asambleas de Dios.
El destino de un movimiento de este tipo se observa en la siguiente declaración de El Conflicto de los Siglos, página 498: «Cuando las iglesias principales de los Estados Unidos, uniéndose en puntos comunes de doctrina, influyan sobre el estado para que imponga los decretos y las instituciones de ellas, entonces la América protestante habrá formado una imagen de la jerarquía romana, y la inflicción de penas civiles contra los disidentes vendrá de por sí sola».
