La nueva regulación de Hungría, la cual entró en vigencia el pasado 15 de marzo, esencialmente prohíbe las compras el día domingo, con unas pocas excepciones. La ley también limita las horas regulares de las tiendas a un horario de 6 am a 10 pm. «Se exceptúan las farmacias, pequeñas tiendas atendidas por sus propietarios o miembros de la familia y tiendas ubicadas en hospitales, prisiones, estaciones de servicio, aeropuertos y estaciones de tren y autobús». Los negocios sólo podrán abrir sus puertas cuatro domingos antes de Navidad y otro domingo al año según su elección.
El portavoz Zoltan Kovacs afirma que «los húngaros se acostumbrarán a esto muy rápidamente.»
Las leyes que obligan el cierre de los negocios el día domingo están diseñadas para sentar las bases de leyes más avanzadas, como el descanso dominical y las leyes de adoración dominical.
