Dos días después de los horribles ataques terroristas, el Papa Francisco predicó acerca de los «últimos tiempos», animando a sus oyentes a estar atentos y listos en todo momento para encontrarse con Dios cara a cara.
Diez mil peregrinos se congregaron en la plaza de San Pedro para escuchar al Papa y pensar en las muertes. El Papa expresó su «profundo dolor por los ataques terroristas que ensangrentaron a Francia la noche del viernes, causando muchas muertes». También condenó la masacre calificándola de una «afrenta indecible a la dignidad humana».
Denunció el uso del nombre de Dios para justificar los ataques brutales como «blasfemia». «Tal barbarie nos deja sorprendidos y nos preguntamos cómo el corazón humano puede concebir y llevar a cabo actos tan terribles, que han sacudido no sólo a Francia, sino al mundo entero», dijo.
Asemejándose como un predicador evangélico, el Papa dijo que Jesús predicó sobre el fin del mundo y habló de «elementos apocalípticos, como la guerra, el hambre y las catástrofes cósmicas». Dijo que «el sol se oscurecería, y la luna no daría su luz, y las estrellas caerían del cielo, y las potencias de los cielos serían conmovidas».
Además agregó: «Estamos llamados a vivir el presente” pero debemos estar listos a encontrarnos con Dios en el momento que Él nos llame.
El Papa también advirtió en contra de la curiosidad malsana de las personas que desean conocer detalles del futuro y recurren a los psíquicos y horóscopos, diciendo que éstos nos distraen de lo que es realmente importante en el presente.
Sin embargo, el Papa no mencionó que muchos de los detalles del tiempo del fin se encuentran en la Biblia, la cual nos puede dar una imagen bastante clara de lo que se puede esperar.
