Erika Kirk’s Turning Point Faith Movement
Ellen White’s rebuke in Testimonies for the Church, vol. 5, p. 714.2 is not merely historical—it’s a living warning. She called for alertness when religious movements sought to influence civil legislation, especially under the guise of moral reform. That’s precisely what the National Reform Association attempted in the 19th century, and it’s why parallels with Turning Point Faith deserve serious theological scrutiny today.
Why the Parallel Matters
Turning Point Faith, an offshoot of Turning Point USA, promotes a biblically grounded civic engagement model that blends religious fervor with political activism. While many see this as a revival of Christian values in public life, others—especially within the SDA tradition—see echoes of the National Reform Movement’s push for a Christian amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
The National Reformers believed America should be officially recognized as a Christian nation, with laws reflecting biblical morality. Ellen White warned that such efforts, however well-intentioned, would ultimately erode religious liberty and pave the way for church-state union—a central concern of the third angel’s message.
Should SDA Ministers Speak Out?
Absolutely—if they are to be faithful to the prophetic mandate. Here’s why:
• Prophetic Responsibility: SDA ministers are called to interpret current events through the lens of Revelation 13 and 14. Movements that blend religious identity with political power must be evaluated in light of the beast-power dynamics and the image to the beast.
• Historical Echoes: The National Reform Movement was not dismissed by Ellen White as a fringe concern. She saw it as a direct threat to liberty of conscience. Turning Point Faith’s emphasis on Christian nationalism, though not identical, shares structural similarities that warrant attention.
• Third Angel’s Message Misunderstood: White lamented that many ministers didn’t grasp the full scope of the third angel’s message. That includes understanding how religious liberty, Sabbath observance, and church-state separation are intertwined.
A Call to Action
Ellen White’s words ( 5T 714.2 ) —“May the Lord forgive our brethren for thus interpreting the very message for this time”—are a sobering indictment. They suggest that silence or neutrality in the face of religious-political fusion is not just a missed opportunity but a spiritual failure.
Leading SDA ministers should not only point out these parallels—they should educate, warn, and equip their congregations to discern the difference between genuine revival and prophetic deception. That’s not political meddling; it’s prophetic fidelity.

Mittwoch, der 24. September 2025 at 09:19I have said for years, ever since reading The Great Controversy for the first time as a young adult, that the extremism of the Left will reach its uttermost, and the reaction of the Right will cause the pendulum to swing to the opposite extreme.
The use of the phrase, „The pendulum is swinging to the Right“ hits the nail on the head! And while I have been a lifelong conservative, seeking to defend our God-given rights from those who desire to deny them, I am also a libertarian. The libertarian position is to oppose extremes that would increase authoritarianism, be it from the Left or the Right.
And amid all of this, the best counsel on the issues manifesting themselves in current events is still from the pen of Ellen White. We should not be binding ourselves together like kindling wood for a fire… We must reject the appeal of both sides of the political divide and bind ourselves ever so tighter to the only life preserver that works, Jesus Christ.
