Samstag, der 9. Mai 2020 at 03:28This is not a loss of constitutional rights. Our constitutional rights have limits. My freedom of speech does not give me the right to yell out things that could endanger other people. Such as yelling „bomb!“ in a crowded stadium hall. In the same way if an emergency changes our circumstances then my right to peaceably assemble for protest or worship becomes a danger to the public, those rights can constitutionally be curtailed until the emergency passes. There is no loss of constitutional rights. The only thing being lost is our misunderstanding of constitutional rights being absolute. The supreme court has ruled on this and laws have been in place for a long time to deal with these matters. Our feelings about those legal decisions do not mean our private personal conscience, no matter how many share in the same, can supersede those of our elected representatives. Imagine what would start to happen to our church if its organizational units and individuals could disregard the elected representatives whenever they wanted because of „conscience“ or because they claim „god given rights“ that are defined entirely by themselves. Fragmentation and disunity would result. It would shatter and break apart.
