A new study from Loma Linda University funded by the National Cancer Institute says that vegans have lower rates of cancer than both meat-eaters and ovo-lacto vegetarians. The controlled study, for instance, showed that vegan woman had 34 percent lower female-specific cancers than other vegetarians.
The study was very interesting. People were placed on various diets and their blood dripped on human cancer cells growing in a petri dish. The blood of women placed on a plant based diet for just two weeks suppressed growth of cancer cells. That’s just two weeks on a plant based diet! This was also true for men against prostate cancer and prostate enlargement.
What changed in the blood that made it hostile to cancer in just two weeks? Scientists think that a cancer-promoting growth hormone known as IGF-1 is stimulated by animal protein. But within two weeks of switching to a plant-based diet IGF-1 levels in the blood decrease significantly, enough to slow the growth of cancer cells.
Studies comparing IGF-1 levels in meat-eaters, vegetarians and vegans suggest that animal protein ought to be eliminated all together. A new study of thousands of American vegans showed lower rates of obesity, diabetes and high blood pressure as well as lower cancer risks than ovo-lacto vegetarians and meat-eaters.
Yet another study showed that a vegan diet caused more than 500 genes to change in only three months, turning on genes that prevent disease and turning off genes that cause cancer and other diseases. If you think you are a victim of your genes, think again.
“Grains, fruits, nuts, and vegetables constitute the diet chosen for us by our Creator. These foods, prepared in as simple and natural a manner as possible, are the most healthful and nourishing. They impart a strength, a power of endurance, and a vigor of intellect that are not afforded by a more complex and stimulating diet.” Ministry of Healing, page 296
“Let the diet reform be progressive. Let the people be taught how to prepare food without the use of milk or butter. Tell them that the time will soon come when there will be no safety in using eggs, milk, cream, or butter, because disease in animals is increasing in proportion to the increase of wickedness among men.” Counsels on Diet and Foods, page 349
