Los activistas han estado presionando para que haya un boicot en Indiana después de que el estado aprobara una ley de «libertad religiosa», en la cual se prohíbe al estado obligar a la gente a prestar servicios contrarios a sus convicciones religiosas. Los activistas homosexuales dicen que la ley discrimina a los homosexuales. Los defensores dicen que no discrimina sino que se limita a proteger la libertad religiosa. Otros estados de Estados Unidos están considerando presentar proyectos de leyes similares.
Los activistas están pidiendo a las empresas y grupos económicos que boicoteen a Indiana. Por ejemplo, la Asociación Nacional de Atletas Universitarios dijo que estaba «especialmente preocupada» por la forma en la cual la ley podría afectar a sus empleados y estudiantes atletas. Algunas convenciones, como la de GenCon, convención de jugadores y juegos electrónicos, ha amenazado con celebrar su reunión en otro lugar. Salesforce, una empresa californiana, canceló todos los viajes de sus empleados a Indiana.
Y los ejecutivos, como Jeremy Stoppelman de Yelp y Tim Cook de Apple, han instado a los Estados para que no sigan el ejemplo de Indiana. Stoppelman argumentó en una carta abierta que esas leyes podrían afectar el desarrollo de la economía en los Estados que las adopten, haciendo que los consumidores sean las víctimas.
El alcalde de Indianápolis, Greg Ballard, advirtió que la ley podría hacer que el Estado fuese considerado como poco acogedor. Por su parte, Hillary Clinton dijo en un mensaje de Twitter, «Es triste pensar que esta nueva ley de Indiana pueda darse en los Estados Unidos de hoy en día. No debemos discriminar a las personas por quienes aman».
El gobernador de Indiana, Mike Pence, defendió la firma de la ley diciendo que «ayuda a proteger a las iglesias, empresas cristianas e individuos de los que quieren castigarlos por sus creencias bíblicas». Pence agregó que no cree que la ley sea discriminatoria.
Los activistas homosexuales saben que si se aplican excepciones a las leyes anti-discriminatorias por el tema de la libertad religiosa, éstas podrían poner en peligro su agenda en los Estados Unidos y limitar su capacidad para imponerla. Aquellos que defienden a los homosexuales no están dispuestos a respetar la libertad de religión. Quieren silenciar cualquier voz disidente o reprobación, al igual que los hombres de Sodoma querían silenciar a Lot.
Y Lot dijo: «Os ruego, hermanos míos, que no hagáis tal maldad… Y ellos respondieron: Quita allá; y añadieron: Vino este extraño para habitar entre nosotros, ¿y habrá de erigirse en juez? Ahora te haremos más mal que a ellos. Y hacían gran violencia al varón, a Lot, y se acercaron para romper la puerta”. Génesis 19: 7, 9.

We should show them that the Old Testament is as verily the gospel in types and shadows as the New Testament is in its unfolding power. That God who walked with Enoch was our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. He was the light of the world then just as He is now. Those who lived then were not without teachers to instruct them in the path of life; for Noah and Enoch were Christians. The gospel is given in precept in Leviticus.
