Unusual Wildfires and Tornados Wreak Havoc

We’ve seen and heard of massive wildfires and tornados in America, But 2015 was the worst on record with 9.8 million acres burned, which is the equivalent of Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island and part of New Hampshire all on fire. But now we learn of a big fire in California in December. That isn’t normal!

On Christmas day, a massive wildfire erupted near Ventura, California, which rapidly destroyed more than 1200 acres. Then the next day a swarm of deadly tornados ripped through Dallas County, Texas, including an E-F4 tornado that packed winds of at least 166 mph, and shredded parts of Garland, Texas. The tornadoes destroyed over 1000 homes and buildings and killed 11 people.

This is the first E-F4 tornado in the USA to strike in December in more than 15 years. It is also the farthest west a tornado of that strength has formed in December, and only the second E-F4 in Dallas County since 1950 when accurate recordkeeping began. Does an E-F4 tornado in December the day after Christmas seem strange to you? That’s because IT IS strange and unusual.

Many blame it on a strong El Niño that has been sucking moisture out of Australia and dropping rain in Latin America, where many South American nations are inundated with floods. Paraguay, for instance 130,000 people have been forced to leave their homes. And in northern Argentina, 20,000 people have had to evacuate.

Why would an El Niño create such havoc? As sea temperatures rise, the atmosphere above it sucks up moisture… Then “down stream” it has to release that moisture, causing heavy rains and unruly weather that can cause deadly tornados and floods.

Recently, there have been many strange disasters, at least since September. Something unique has been happening especially the last half of 2015. There have been many devastating wildfires, huge floods (including the most recent one along the Mississippi river), historic droughts, earthquakes and volcanic eruptions in a relatively short period of time. Our planet is becoming increasingly unstable. Why?

The prophet Isaiah gives the reason for the increasing devastation of the earth. “The land shall be utterly emptied, and utterly spoiled: for the LORD hath spoken this word. The earth mourneth and fadeth away, the world languisheth and fadeth away, the haughty people of the earth do languish. The earth also is defiled under the inhabitants thereof; because they have transgressed the laws, changed the ordinance, broken the everlasting covenant. Therefore hath the curse devoured the earth, and they that dwell therein are desolate: therefore the inhabitants of the earth are burned, and few men left.” Isaiah 24:3-6

“Men in responsible positions will not only ignore and despise the Sabbath themselves, but from the sacred desk, will urge upon the people the observance of the first day of the week, pleading tradition and custom in behalf of this man-made institution. They will point to calamities on land and sea–to the storms of wind, the floods, the earthquakes, the destruction by fire–as judgments indicating God’s displeasure because Sunday is not sacredly observed. These calamities will increase more and more, one disaster will follow close upon the heels of another; and those who make void the law of God will point to the few who are keeping the Sabbath of the fourth commandment as the ones who are bringing wrath upon the world. This falsehood is Satan’s device that he may ensnare the unwary.” Signs of the Times, January 17, 1884
