Trembling at a Ginsburg-Less Court

One News Now, by Chad Groening and Billy Davis: A former U.S. Justice Department attorney says the political Left, worried about losing their beloved but frail U.S. Supreme Court justice, is determined to defeat President Trump in 2020.

“They’re pouring everything they’ve got into this because it’s the sixth Supreme Court vote,” J. Christian Adams, referring to ailing justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, says of the all-out effort now under way to win.

Beyond voting on cultural issues and economics, many astute voters also understand the power and longevity of SCOTUS appointments.

Trump, to date, has appointed two justices, Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh, but those appointments replaced conservative Antonin Scalia and moderate swing vote Anthony Kennedy, respectively.

Adams says Democrats are now sweating over a second Trump term and in particular are worried about him replacing Ginsburg, a former ACLU attorney, feminist, and abortion supporter, with a conservative justice.

Reportedly waiting in the wings is Amy Coney Barrett, a Catholic judge who was told that the “dogma lives proudly within you” by Sen. Dianne Feinstein at a 2017 hearing.

Ginsburg, 86, is a reliably liberal vote on the high court who has overcome colon cancer and pancreatic cancer, and suffered a fall in her Supreme Court office last year that fractured three ribs.

She also stated last year that she intends to remain on the court for five more years, which was seen by political observers as her intention to outlast Trump’s first term.

She was appointed to the nation’s highest court in 1993 by Bill Clinton.

Much like the Left wanting to dismantle the Electoral College after 2016, the Left has suggested expanding the number of justices and even “rotating” justices, which is likely unconstitutional, after watching Trump make two appointments to date.

Regardless of who wins the Democratic nomination, Adams says Democrats understand the court’s role to “fundamentally transform American culture and American law,” and that starts with Trump losing next year.

Ginsburg caused uproar in 2012 after she told an Egyptian TV news station that the U.S. Constitution is not a good model for countries to follow, and her left-wing vote was pivotal to the 5-4 Obergefell ruling in 2015 after she officiated at a same-sex marriage in 2013.

“So this is not so much about Trump,” Adams says. “This is about Supreme Court races and issues like the Bladensburg cross and the census case.”

Our Comment:
Replacing Ginsberg is not just a battle between liberals and conservatives. It will have religious liberty implications, as well. If another Catholic conservative is placed on the Supreme Court, evangelicals and Catholics will have a shot at putting America under Christian rule and establishing worship laws.
