Taiwan Maintains Illicit Relationship with Vatican

The Republic of China, or Taiwan “maintains a friendly, close relationship” with its only diplomatic ally in Europe, the Holy See, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. “Based on the solid relationship we will continue to enhance our ties with the Holy See,” said a spokeswoman.

The remarks came in the wake of reports that Pope Francis had exchanged letters with Chinese President Xi Jinping shortly after becoming pope. “We are close to China,” the pope said referring to himself as the papal “we.”

China and the Vatican are at odds over the more than 70 years of diplomatic ties between the Papacy and Taiwan, which were established in 1942. China considers Taiwan to be a breakaway province.

Continuing and enhancing diplomatic ties with the Vatican is described in the Bible as an illicit spiritual fornication. See Revelation 17:2 and 18:3
