New Zealand passes gay marriage bill

The New Zealand parliament passed the Marriage Equality Bill, introduced by lesbian MP Louisa Wall. The vote had 77 votes in favor to 44 against after two hours of debate.

Green MP Mojo Mathers stated that she was in support of the bill because she wants her lesbian daughter to have the same rights as her other daughter.

Prime Minister John Key had an influence by announcing his support of gay marriage “the day after [U.S. President Barack] Obama announced his.”

The bill was rammed through parliament without public debate or much discussion. “Calls for a referendum were rejected because it was claimed that ‘it would be difficult for people to exercise an informed vote’ and ‘minority rights issues’ should not be the subject of a referendum.’” Public debate was prevented through parliamentary procedure.

The social revolution began with decriminalization of homosexuality 27 years ago and makes New Zealand the 13th nation to legalize gay marriage. The Marriage (Definition of Marriage) Amendment Bill also allows both people to be legally recognized as a parent of an adopted child.

In a sacrilegious remark about the rainbow of God’s promise, one of the openly gay MPs said that there was a lot of rain in his district that day and that there was an “enormous big gay rainbow across my electorate. It has to be a sign.”

New Zealand has taken a position like Sodom in defiance of the God of heaven.

“Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot…” Luke 17:28
