Is Anarchy in Our Future?

“Someone threw bricks through the Nebraska Republican Party’s office windows in Lincoln and spray-painted “ABOLISH ICE” on a sidewalk in front of the building, party officials said… Executive Director Kenny Zoeller said the vandalism happened between midnight and 3 a.m. at the party’s downtown office, three blocks from the state Capitol.

“The vandals caused approximately $1,200 in damage, according to a Lincoln police report. One brick smashed all the way through a front window, and another shattered one pane of a second window’s double-paned glass. A newspaper carrier discovered the damage shortly after 3 a.m. and called authorities, police said.

“Zoeller said someone also spray-painted the word “Resist” on the party’s front windows in December. He said his office frequently receives threats of violence, particularly in the wake of President Donald Trump’s election and the heated national rhetoric that followed.

“‘I really wish I could tell you I’m surprised by this, but I’m not,’ Zoeller said. He said nothing was stolen from inside the party office.

“The words ‘ABOLISH ICE’ are a reference to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Some have called for the government to replace the agency following intense criticism of its implementation of President Donald Trump’s suspended policy of separating families who cross the U.S.-Mexico border.

The vandalism is the latest in a string of incidents aimed at Republican officials in GOP-dominated Nebraska. Last year, police said vandals tossed reddish-brown “fake blood” on the Lincoln office doors of U.S. Sens. Deb Fischer and Ben Sasse. But now the vandalism has become violent. The Nebraska Democratic Party condemned last year’s vandalism.

But the calls to abolish ICE have now gone to the party’s elites. Before his defeat in New York’s 14th Congressional District, Joe Crowley, fourth-ranked Democrat in the House, called ICE a “fascist” organization. After Crowley’s rout by a 28-year-old socialist who called for killing the agency, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., declared ICE to be “a cruel deportation force (that) we need to abolish.”

“Cynthia Nixon, candidate for governor of New York, described ICE as a ‘terrorist organization … terrorizing people who are coming to this country. … We need to abolish ICE.’”

Democratic New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio joined the clamor: “We should abolish ICE,” and Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., also signed on: What ICE does is “ugly” and “wrong,” said Warren. “We need to rebuild our immigration system from top to bottom starting by replacing ICE with something that reflects our morality.”

“Wisconsin Democratic Congressman Mark Pocan plans to introduce legislation to do exactly that — abolish ICE.

“President Donald Trump describes this latest liberal campaign as social and political insanity: ‘You get rid of ICE you’re going to have a country that you’re going to be afraid to walk out of your house.’”

Because of the U.S. Supreme Court decisions on Mr. Trump’s travel ban, Union fees, and support for a few other conservative issues, and especially the resignation of Anthony Kennedy, Democrats are in imminent danger of losing it altogether. Justice Anthony Kennedy was the “swing vote” on the Supreme Court who was crucial to the decisions that established abortion, homosexuality and same-sex marriage as constitutional rights. Panic ensued.

“I’m scared. You’re scared. We’re all scared,” says Warren in a video her campaign has released.

“Leftist film director Michael Moore called for a million citizens to surround the Capitol to prevent a vote on Kennedy’s successor.”

But the savage slanders Democrats are hurling at the 20,000 men and women of ICE who are daily protecting the United States as best they can are an especially egregious form of ingratitude. ICE, after all, was established to prevent another 9/11, when real terrorists, some of whom had overstayed their visas, massacred 3,000 innocent people, most of them Americans.

Where is the United States headed? Could we soon see the rise of circumstances that are similar to the U.S. civil war in the 1860s, or the conditions that presaged the French Revolution?

“At the same time anarchy is seeking to sweep away all law, not only divine, but human. The centralizing of wealth and power; the vast combinations for the enriching of the few at the expense of the many; the combinations of the poorer classes for the defense of their interests and claims; the spirit of unrest, of riot and bloodshed; the world-wide dissemination of the same teachings that led to the French Revolution—all are tending to involve the whole world in a struggle similar to that which convulsed France.” Education, page 228.
