El Papa expres\u00f3 que la oficina era un signo de la \u201ccreciente cercan\u00eda\u00bb entre las dos iglesias y su deseo de \u00absuperar todo lo que se interponga en el camino para llegar a una plena comuni\u00f3n\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>El Papa se reuni\u00f3 con los metodistas en el Vaticano en una audiencia privada despu\u00e9s de los acontecimientos que marcaron la apertura del nuevo centro, en el cual se hallaban  representantes del Vaticano. Otros asistentes a las celebraciones fueron los representantes del arzobispo de Canterbury en Roma y representantes de otras iglesias de Roma.<\/p>\n<p>El Papa cit\u00f3 a John Wesley, uno de los fundadores del Metodismo, y dijo que los miembros de ambas comunidades deben ayudarse mutuamente \u00aben lo que conduce al reino\u00bb. Sin duda, John Wesley habr\u00eda reaccionado muy negativamente a que sus palabras sean utilizadas de esa manera por el Papa. Wesley entend\u00eda claramente la naturaleza del catolicismo romano y lo ve\u00eda como el anti-Cristo.<\/p>\n<p>Haciendo referencia a los primeros metodistas, el Papa Francisco dijo que los cat\u00f3licos y metodistas todav\u00eda pueden aprender unos de los otros sobre c\u00f3mo se vive y se entiende la santidad. \u00bfRealmente pueden los metodistas llegar a entender la santidad de la iglesia cat\u00f3lica la cual ense\u00f1a cualquier cosa menos la verdadera santidad?<\/p>\n<p>El papa Francisco tambi\u00e9n dijo que los metodistas y los cat\u00f3licos deben reunirse regularmente para conocerse mejor. Aunque todav\u00eda existen diferencias, el Papa dijo que la continuaci\u00f3n del di\u00e1logo \u00abbasado en el respeto y la fraternidad\u00bb, enriquecer\u00e1 a ambas comunidades.
