Eat Your Blueberries

Blueberries are one of the most popular foods. They are used in many things, from muffins to pancakes, pies and even salads. Making blueberries a part of your diet will only do good for your body. Here’s how:

1. Blueberries are loaded with antioxidants. They are ranked as one of the best sources of the flavonoids and anthocyanins. They are linked to a wide array of health benefits ranging from maintaining cholesterol levels to healthy heart function.

2. Blueberries have abundant nutrition and can be counted on to help maintain your daily vitamin and mineral requirements. One cup, or 150g, for instance, will give you 36 percent of your recommended daily requirement of vitamin K, 25 percent of your manganese requirement and 24 percent of your required vitamin C. That translates into support for calcium distribution, proper thyroid function and your immune system.

3. Blueberries support your brain. Those flavonoids are brain food and blueberry juice improves cognitive ability in older adults. A couple of servings a week can help maintain healthy brain function.

4. Blueberries improve digestion too because they support gastrointestinal health. Those friendly gut bacteria (microbiota) are important to nutrition absorption, vitamin synthesis, and they are affected by what we eat.

5. Blueberries also contribute fiber, which normalizes the bowels.

“Grains, fruits, nuts, and vegetables constitute the diet chosen for us by our Creator. These foods, prepared in as simple and natural a manner as possible, are the most healthful and nourishing. They impart a strength, a power of endurance, and a vigor of intellect, that are not afforded by a more complex and stimulating diet.” The Ministry of Healing, pages 295 and 296.
