Eat Your Hummus

Beans have many benefits including anti-diabetic and anti-obesity effects through their phytonutrients. They also protect the cardiovascular system as well. Beans have antioxidant qualities, anti-inflammatory effects, protect the liver, lower cholesterol and blood pressure. They also slow down the aging process, prevent diabetes, osteoporosis DNA damage, heart disease and many other disorders. In fact, legumes can reduce risk of high blood pressure by 75 percent.

Chickpeas have been effective in treating high blood pressure and diabetes for thousands of years, and for lowering blood pressure. Two servings per day of lentils, chickpeas, beans, or split peas can reduce cholesterol so much that many participants had lower cholesterol levels than what is usually the level that statin drugs are typically prescribed.

In a study in India for example, participants were packed with a high fat diet to raise cholesterol levels comparable to Western nations, then given chickpeas, which brought their cholesterol levels down to the safe zone again.

So, eat your hummus! It will help your health.

“If we plan wisely, that which is most conducive to health can be secured in almost every land. The various preparations of rice, wheat, corn, and oats are sent abroad everywhere, also beans, peas, and lentils. These, with native or imported fruits, and the variety of vegetables that grow in each locality, give an opportunity to select a dietary that is complete without the use of flesh meats.” Ministry of Healing, page 299
