Ben Carson gives Political Speech on Sabbath

Republican contenders for the U.S. Presidency tried to out-do each other on Saturday, May 9, 2015 in arguing that President Obama is a failed leader. While the critiques are no surprise, what does surprise some is that Ben Carson, a Seventh-day Adventist retired neurosurgeon was there to make a speech as well.

Carson was one of eight declared and potential candidates to make the speech on the Sabbath, which included Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker (Evangelical), Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal (Roman Catholic), Former Pennsylvania U.S. Senator Rick Santorum (Roman Catholic), former Texas Governor, Rick Perry (Evangelical), Florida Senator, Marco Rubio (Roman Catholic), Texas Senator, Ted Cruz (Southern Baptist), Ben Carson, retired surgeon (Seventh-day Adventist) and former executive Carly Fiorina (Episcopalian).

The conservative group Citizens United sponsored the event.

Ben Carson is setting a public example of what he believes Sabbath-keeping is, both in the United States and around the world. Apparently, he has no problem holding political speech on God’s holy day. He is highly respected, and yet he lightly regards the Sabbath, and influencing others to do the same. It also sends the message to the world that if he were president; the Sabbath would not get in the way of his official political and secular duties.

“The enemy of souls has sought to bring in the supposition that a great reformation was to take place among Seventh-day Adventists, and that this reformation would consist in giving up the doctrines which stand as the pillars of our faith, and engaging in a process of reorganization… The Sabbath, of course would be lightly regarded, as also the God who created it…” Selected Messages, Vol. 1, 204
